Fulfilling my obligations to my long-neglected TBR one book a time. Want to know why? I explain it in the first post here. Posting striking lines daily on BlueSky
Eleven Legends! That is what Adrian Matejka titled his editorial introduction for this issue. To celebrate their 11 decades of existence, Poetry featured 11 poets who received 2022 Ruth Lily Poetry Prizes. Each poet is introduced by a friend or literary compatriot. What a great idea!
Also, what a great cover. At first glance, it looks pretty basic if not a little amateur-ish, and then the enjambment hits your eye. Genius! Love it!

If you follow me over on over on BlueSky you already know I post lines I find striking every day as I slowly read through one book or issue each week. From this particular issue, I would like to draw your attention to these lines from from Arthur Sze:
Geckos click and squiggle up a windowpane;
crisscrossing palm fronds and blades
of sunlight block lines of sight; when a
a frond sways, you sway, tingling in yellow light,
I had actually never heard of Arthur Sze before reading this issue. The introduction by Lost Roads publisher Forrest Gardner very much gave me feelings of both FOMO but also a little bit of that thrill of discovery and anticipation of books to be read. You know what I’m talking about, that strong indication of a poem coming on 😉
